Chasing Shadows (2008 / 2013)

A peaceful sleepwalk through a silent world bereft of people.  As the evening light transforms the everyday into a dreamlike state, familiar urban landscapes disappear underneath resilient vegetation.

Long exposures on 35mm black and white film record the contemplative stillness of the night, the only movement in the wind blowing through leaves. I hand printed the images with lith developer on old fibre based paper to create single edition prints with a tactile quality and degraded aesthetic reminiscent of illustrative drawing or etching. Winning a 2013 Islington Exhibits Artists Award, I was commissioned to rework the images into a large-scale projection installation, re-presenting the frozen moments as transitory echoes of the original.

Projection exhibited at Isligton Exhibits 2013, Hackney WickEd! 2014. Promotional image for Islington Exhibits 2013.

Flower Flower Water Light (2017-18)

A travel diary of chaotic beauty and colourful abstraction, documenting journeys through the landscapes of the UK, France, and Spain and unifying the three countries into one emotional state.   Triple exposures on 35mm slide film blend and to overlay flowers, plants, the land, and ripples of sunlight on the surface of the sea, emulating memory and movement through time and place.

Exhibited by Shutter Hub at Festival Pil'Ours 2018, Borders 2018, Everything I Ever Learnt 2019.  Promotional image for Borders 2018.

Cornish road (hedges), in Flow (2014 / 2017)

An abstract study of time, colour, movement, and the flow-state, captured in the vibrant hedges that line some of Cornwall's twisting ancient roads. Photographed on an iphone, in 2017 the series was reworked as a variable speed large scale projection.

Photograph awarded 3rd Place (Experts Choice - judged by Laura Noble, Christ Steele-Perkins at Fix Festival, 2017, and finalist in 7th Julia Margaret Cameron Awards for Women Photographers, 2015. Exhibited at Fix Festival 2o17, Berline Foto Bienniale 2016, Life Framer II London / Biele Switzerland 2015.  Projection exhibited at The Free Space Project / Traces, 2017.

An example of my use of abstract photography for projection installation. This visual style will be incorprated into the printmaking and photography for the large projection film.
